This year, our parish church celebrates its 150th Anniversary.
It has been a focal point in the midst of past and present generations for a century and a half. Truly worthy of celebration, the parish gathered on the evening of December 8th - the Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception - to mark the occasion in a Mass of Thanksgiving and Social Evening. Bishop Brendan Kelly joined us and was the Principal Celebrant at Mass. He was joined by priests who were born in the parish (Tom Frain, Padraig Costello, Dan O'Mahony and Stephen O'Mahony) and others who ministered here in recent and distant past (Farrell Cawley, Paddy Kilcoyne, Dermot Burns, Greg Hannan) and some who are in neighbouring parishes (John Doherty, Tom Johnston, Michael Quinn, Martin Henry) as well as the present priests of the parish (Vincent Sherlock and John Maloney).
The following links remind us of some moments during the Mass of Thanksgiving
Music was provided by the Kilmovee Church Choir and the local younger members of C.C.E. Many others from the parish took part in the Liturgy and a sincere word of thanks to all who were involved. Thanks also to the many who worked so hard behind the scenes, preparing the church, decorating, flower arranging and so much more. Fine pictorial displays were put together, featuring events in the Parish Church through the years and thanks to all who worked on that and to all who made photographs available.
Following Mass there was a very pleasant gathering in the local Community Centre. Again, well done to all involved in preparing the centre, serving food etc. A special word of thanks to the Bingo Committee who sponsored the food. This was very kind of them and is deeply appreciated.
Gerald Duffy of the Parish Pastoral Council acted as MC in the Community Centre and welcomed Bishop Kelly to the parish. He introduced Anne Marie Rooney and her group of young musicians who provided of their best. Thank you! Martin Frain, well known for his ability to compose and recite poetry, gave us a lovely poetic reflection on the history of the church and its importance in our midst.
