Diocese of Achonry

Priests and parishioners from the diocese of Achonry gathered in the Gateway Hotel, Swinford on November 8th for a special Liturgy of Commissioning for those involved with safeguarding children throughout the diocese. Ms Sandra Claxton, HSE, addressed the gathering and Bishop Kelly led a time of prayer and reflection before formally commissioning those who have undergone HSE training.

Bishop Kelly, thanking all those who had accepted the invitation to become involved in this special role, refleceted on the gospel passage where Jesus insisted nothing should stand in the way of children coming to him. In this light, he pointed out, the important role played by all in the diocese of Achonry and throughout the church in ensuring that children are and always will be safe and at peace in their involvement with Parish life and liturgy. He thanked Ms Claxton and the HSE for the help, guidance and professional advice given to the diocese. He thanked those involved in providing training and pointed out this is a continuing process.
